Terms of Service
1. About MatchMate
MatchMate is operated by Frederico Coelho, based in Portugal. MatchMate is an app for arranging your own football: create a match, join someone else's, wait for a place when one is full, follow other players, take part in communities, chat, and rate people you played with.
MatchMate is a software platform. We do not organise your games, book or operate venues, supervise play, employ the people who host matches, provide referees or equipment, guarantee any user or venue, or receive payment for matches. What happens at a match is between the people who go to it.
By using MatchMate you agree to these Terms.
2. Eligibility — 18+
MatchMate is for adults. You confirm your date of birth when you create an account and must be at least 18. We do not check identity or age documents, so this is your declaration. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it.
3. Your account
Keep your details accurate and your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account, except where we are at fault. Do not impersonate anyone, do not share your account, and do not create an account for someone else.
4. Matches and hosts
Whoever creates a match hosts it. The host sets the time, place, format and size, decides who can join, and can edit, remove a player or cancel — everyone who joined is told when something material changes.
A match can be public, visible to the host's followers, invite-only, or visible to a community. Only an approved Organizer can publish a public match.
Hosts are users, not our staff. Match details come from them and we do not verify them.
5. Waiting list and reserved places
A host can let people wait for a place on a full match. The queue is first come, first served, and neither the host nor we can reorder it. When a place opens, the first person in line is offered it and has a limited time to confirm before the offer passes to the next person. A place held by a live offer is not open to anyone else, and being on the waiting list is not a place until you confirm one.
6. Organizers
Organizer is an optional status for people who run matches regularly. We grant it after reviewing an application, and we can pause or withdraw it.
It is not a certification. It does not mean the person has been vetted, background-checked, insured or verified as safe, and it does not make them our employee, agent or partner. Organizers must follow the Organizer Rulebook.
7. Communities
A community is a group with an owner. Owners set their own rules — which cannot conflict with these Terms — decide who joins, and can remove members and moderate their community's chat. Community matches are visible to members.
If an owner deletes their account, the community is closed rather than deleted, so members keep their history.
8. User content and chats
What you write stays yours. You give us permission to store and show it inside MatchMate so the app can work.
Do not post anything illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, deceptive, or anyone else's private information. Do not use match or community chat for spam or advertising.
We do not read chat routinely and we do not pre-moderate it. We may remove content or restrict an account that breaks these rules.
9. Ratings
After a match you can rate people you played with. A public average appears only once there are at least three ratings, and written feedback is never shown publicly — it goes to us.
Ratings are users' opinions, not statements of fact by MatchMate. Do not use a rating to retaliate against someone; if there is a problem, report it.
10. Reporting, blocking and moderation
You can report a profile, match, community or message, and you can block someone — a block hides you from each other.
We review reports and may warn someone, remove content, remove a player from a match, withdraw Organizer status, or close an account. We keep a record of what we decided and why.
If you believe something on MatchMate is illegal rather than simply against our rules, there is a separate route: Report illegal content, in Settings under Privacy & Safety. That is a formal notice and we handle it differently from an ordinary report.
11. Sports, venues and personal responsibility
Playing football carries a real risk of injury. You decide whether you are fit to play, and you are responsible for your own health, insurance and equipment.
Follow the rules of the venue you are at. We do not inspect venues, supervise play, provide first aid or arrange insurance for you.
In an emergency, call 112. MatchMate is not an emergency service.
12. Third-party services
MatchMate runs on services we do not own: Supabase for hosting, database and sign-in; Expo for app delivery and push notifications; Google Maps Platform for maps, places and directions; and Apple or Google sign-in if you use it. Their own terms apply to their part of the service. The Privacy Policy explains what each one handles.
13. Disclaimers and liability
MatchMate is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, and we do not promise that any match will happen, that anyone will turn up, or that a venue will be as described.
We are not responsible for what users do — no-shows, behaviour, injuries, venue problems, or money exchanged between people.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for your mandatory rights as a consumer under Portuguese and EU law.
14. Suspension and account deletion
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or the Safety Guidelines, or where the law requires it. Where we can, we tell you why.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. When a change is material we ask you to accept the new version in the app before you carry on using MatchMate. Small corrections that do not change what you agreed to do not require accepting again.
16. Governing law
Portuguese law applies, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the EU, this does not remove the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of the country you live in.
