1. Who operates MatchMate

MatchMate is operated by Frederico Coelho, based in Portugal. We decide how the information described here is used, which makes us the data controller under the GDPR.

You can contact us at matchmate.app.support@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

What you give us: your email address and how you sign in; the date of birth you declare to confirm you are 18; your profile — name, username, photo, city, position, skill level and anything you write about yourself; and the matches, communities and messages you create.

What using the app creates: matches you join, are invited to or wait for; reserved-place offers; who you follow and who follows you; follow requests; who you block; communities you belong to, own or ask to join; ratings you give and receive; and reports you make.

Technical information: a push notification token and an app installation identifier so notifications reach the right device, plus security records such as sign-in events and rate-limit counters.

3. How we use it

To run MatchMate: show you matches and communities, let people find and join them, deliver notifications, and keep your account working.

To keep it safe: review reports, apply blocks, act on rule-breaking, and prevent abuse.

To meet legal obligations, and to defend legal claims where that becomes necessary.

We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not profile you for marketing.

4. Location

Match venues are locations, chosen by the host, and they are shown to whoever can see the match. That is information about a place, not about you.

If you allow location access, your device position is used while the app is open to centre the map and show the blue dot. It is read once when you open the map, it stays on your device, and we do not upload it, store it or track you in the background. You can refuse the permission and still use the map.

5. Social, match and community information

Your profile is visible to other signed-in users. If your account is private, people you have not approved see only your basic profile.

People in a match can see who else joined and who is on the lista de espera. Community members can see the community's members, matches and rules. Hosts can see who joined their match and who asked to.

Blocking someone hides you from each other.

6. Chat and user content

Match chat is visible to the people in that match; community chat is visible to that community's members. Messages are stored on our servers so they can be delivered, and they are not end-to-end encrypted.

We do not read chat routinely. We can read specific messages when we are investigating a report about them, or where the law requires it.

7. Ratings and reports

Ratings you give are stored with your identity so the same person cannot rate twice, and they are shown to others only as an average, once there are at least three of them.

Written feedback attached to a rating is never shown publicly and is used only for moderation.

Reports you make are visible to us, along with what we decided. Someone you report is not told who reported them.

8. Notifications and device data

If you allow notifications, your device is given a push token, which we store against your account and the app installation so a notification goes to the right device and stops when you sign out. Turning notifications off in your device settings stops them.

9. Service providers

Supabase hosts the database, files and sign-in. Expo delivers push notifications to Apple's and Google's notification services. Google Maps Platform provides maps, place search and directions. Apple and Google handle sign-in if you use it.

They process this information to provide their service to us, under their own terms. We do not share your information with anyone else, except where the law requires it.

10. Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account exists.

You can delete your account in Settings. When you do, your profile and the personal content attached to it are deleted or anonymised, and the ratings you gave are removed — which can change the averages of people you rated. A community you own is closed rather than deleted, so its members keep their history.

We keep some records after deletion where we have a legitimate security or legal reason: reports made about other people, moderation decisions, and records needed to prevent abuse or defend a legal claim. We keep those no longer than the reason for keeping them lasts.

11. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict or object to how we use it, and ask for it in a portable form. You can delete your account yourself in Settings.

If you think we have handled your information wrongly, you can complain to the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD) in Portugal, or to the authority where you live.

12. Security

Access to data is enforced at the database, so a signed-in user can only read what they are entitled to. Traffic is encrypted in transit, sign-in tokens are held in the device keychain, and administrative access is limited. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you and the law requires it, we will tell you.

13. 18+ only

MatchMate is for people aged 18 and over and is not intended for children. We rely on the date of birth you declare. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and delete the data.

14. Changes

We may update this policy. When a change is material we ask you to accept the new version in the app, and the version you accepted is recorded.

15. Contact
